Golden Nuggets

I found yet another book that belonged to Nathan's Grandmother. It's called "Self-Esteem for the Latter-day Saint Woman" by Anita Canfield. Just a little part that I thought was pretty funny, thought I'd share;

"President McKay was reported to have said when asked by the Brethren if the women of the church should wear makeup, 'Well, even an old barn looks better when it's painted.'"
"There is no excuse for a sloppy appearance, even at home -- maybe I should say especially at home. When your family observes you, what are you saying about yourself to them in your appearance? If your hair is unkempt and oily, or your clothes wrinkled and soiled, and you wear no makeup or show no sparkle, what are they learning by your example? Do you only dress up to go out? Is that not dishonesty? For whom are you trying to look nice? If an important dignitary were to come to your home, would you look as nice as you could for the visit? If the Savior were to come, would you change your appearance? You and then your family are the most important people you know. To present an insipid and banal appearance is to acknowledge a lack of self-respect."
My response to this,
"Uh oh."

As I'm reading this, I'm looking down at my work-out sweats and flip-flops, and feeling my frizzy hair pulled back in a casual knot, framing my unpainted face. I am wearing earrings, though. Go figure.

I think my mom read this quote. She was always up and ready, hair done, make up on and never with out lipstick, way before we even got up. I think when I look gross I get more done at home. No Shower=Clean house and projects done.

I keep thinking that I want to write a book on this very subject called, "You Don't Have to Look Like a Hag To Make it to the Celestial Kingdom". But it looks like the book was already written. This is awesome!
