Grandaddy's Treasures

I found a little book today while looking through some old books upstairs. It's a cute book- about 4 inches by 6 inches. It was printed in 1946. It's called "Golden Nuggets of Thought." It belonged to Nathan's Grandad. I love to look through his grandparents' books, because they always marked the passages that left an impression on them. It's a neat way they can show us what things were important to them. Almost every page of this book is dog-earred. It was well-used. And for good reason! It has the best quotes, poems, scriptures and sayings. There were a couple I would love to share with you. I hope you like them as much as I do.

If I knew you and you knew me,
If both of us could clearly see,
And with an inner sight divine
The meaning of your heart and mine,
I'm sure that we would differ less
And clasp our hands in friendliness.
Our thoughts would pleasantly agree
If I knew you and you knew me.
-Waterman
This poem was perfect! I have always been a strong believer that if anyone truly knew someone else and could see them for who they really are inside, anyone can get along with anyone. Usually when we are upset or don't like a particular person, it's only because we don't truly know them. Okay, one more??
This poem was actually the motto for my 9th grade basketball team! I can't believe I came across it! We had t-shirts made that said, "It's All in the State of Mind."
If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you'd like to win, but think you can't,
It's almost a cinch you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you're lost,
For out in the world you'll find
Success begins with a fellow's WILL
It's all in the state of mind.
Full many a race is lost
Ere even a step is run,
And many a coward fails,
Ere even his work is begun.
Think big and your deeds will grow,
Think small and you'll fall behind;
Think that you can, and you will-
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you're outclassed, you are,
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
For sooner or later the man who wins
Is the fellow who thinks he can.
